$24,000
The sum of $20,000 which represents the cost of the buildings which the Col. Govt. has erected on the Island, but that the War Dept. cannot be expected to pay for the cost of the Hulk which is to be used in place of the Lazaretto on Stonecutter's Island, since the Colony will be no worse off now than it would have been in 1884 when the Lazaretto was built had the Island then been required for military purposes.
His Lordship could not be glad enough to hear that the Land Office of the Treasury have signified their assent to the proposed payment of $20,000.
Communicated to the Govt. of Hongkong.
